PCC's statement following the tragic loss of Sir David Amess MP

  • Last Updated: 18-10-2021 at 09:10

“Following the horrific killing of Sir David Amess my heartfelt thoughts and condolences go out to his family, friends and colleagues. An appalling attack of this kind is, of course, not only a human tragedy but a direct attack upon our democracy.

“The whole country has been shocked by this awful event and it has understandably left many of those elected to serve and represent our communities feeling vulnerable and concerned for the safety of those who work with them.

“Lincolnshire Police has made contact with all MPs in the county and is currently reviewing safety measures to see if there is any more that can be done to reassure Members of Parliament and to enable them to continue their important work in their constituencies.

“We should all stand together in condemning attacks on any of our democratically elected representatives. Regardless of individual political beliefs intimidation, aggression and violence can never be justified or accepted.”

- Marc Jones. Police and Crime Commissioner for Lincolnshire.
